Improv Writing DAY 1
Aishwarya: If I need to mention classes that I wish existed in this school, then there are a ton on that list, but let’s stick to 3 for now. First up, magic. I am so interested in magic. I watch those fantasy world anime, and I oh so wish I could learn magic. I even found some traces of magic, which seem a little credible, and maybe it is real. The point is, I wanna learn magic. Second, I wanna learn self-defense. This is not something that would pose a question of if or not it exists. I wish to learn self-defense cause it is cool, and because it would protect me from creeps. I actually used to learn karate in one of my previous schools, where it was mandatory. Third, I want a class about mental health and how to keep our mental health in good condition. I feel like this is extremely important, since so many people our age suffer from mental health issues these days, and we don’t know how to deal with it. Most of our parents in this school are immigrants and do not entirely understand the concept of invisible health issues that play a role in our day-to-day functionality. I feel like these are some important courses that we could really benefit from having in this school.
Rheena: Book class would be an interesting class. Sure, it uses some aspects of English class, however, the main focal point of this class would be literature. To learn the history, ideas, and authors of books. To have reading circles, and maybe even plays on books. The classroom would be spacious, and literally be sort of its own library. Students would learn what librarians do, so the techniques to use when looking for a specific book. Book or literature class would be evident for the bookworms, and if you really like English class as well. Assignments like novel studies, book reviews, and summaries would definitely be embedded in this class. Overall, literature would be your friend, and this class will be very interesting.
Shubhi: Kinesiology and Economics are just two courses that come to mind when considering courses not provided by our school. This is very upsetting as these are really important subjects, and I’ve heard from my friends in university that kinesiology is like a more chill version of biology, and economics is basically a more intriguing version of accounting. This also really sucks as these are genuine paths that students could pursue in their futures, but we can’t just because of the school’s limits. Yeah, some people can lie about their address to get their school changed to something that actually provides these courses, but people like me who are in a regional program can’t do anything about it as this is our one shot to pursue a special field.
